Jake is an Owner at Northstar Baseball Club. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Bloomington, Minnesota. After a standout High School career, Irvin was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 37th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft, but did not sign and played college baseball at the University of Oklahoma.
After arriving on campus, Jake made an immediate impact on the Sooners program. He was a three-year starting pitcher for the Sooners. Over 16 starts in 2018, Irvin compiled a 6-2 record with a 3.41 ERA and 115 SO. He was named first-team All-Big 12.
Jake was drafted for the second time by the Washington Nationals in the 4th round, with the 131st overall selection of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft, and signed. In his first professional season, he recorded a 1.74 ERA across 11 games split between the rookie–level Gulf Coast League Nationals and Low–A Auburn Doubledays. In 2019, Irvin started 25 games for the Single–A Hagerstown Suns, registering an 8–8 record and 3.79 ERA with 113 strikeouts in 128.3 innings pitched.
On May 2, 2023, the Nationals announced that Jake would be promoted to the major leagues for the first time to start the following day against the Chicago Cubs. Irvin made his debut on May 3, 2023 and recorded his first win five days later against the San Francisco Giants. He finished 2023 with a 6-6 record and ERA of 4.61. Jake followed up an impressive rookie year with a stellar 2024, which was a career year for him in every statistical category. He finished the season with a 10-14 record, a 4.41 ERA and 156 SO in 187.2 IP.
